Mother and Son

Past season 2020

by Geoffrey Atherden

QUT is committed to the health and safety of our community. In response to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, QUT Gardens Theatre complex is temporarily closed until further notice. In consultation with the producers, we have cancelled the season of Mother and Son which was to have taken place on 7 & 8 July 2020. Ticket buyers will receive a full refund of the ticket price.

Take a nostalgic trip down 'loss-of-memory' lane with one of Australia's most treasured and dysfunctional TV families!

Arthur is at his wit's end and desperate for some time away with his new girlfriend. But who will look after his meddling mum, Maggie? Vague but vicious and more arsenic than old lace, Maggie would have Arthur tied to her apron strings for life – if she could just remember where she put that apron! While Arthur's dentist brother Robert and his wife Liz claim they'd love to help, they've got their own set of problems after Liz discovers Robert has been doing distinctly unhygienic things with his hygienist! Will Arthur ever get away to pop the question?

From the creator of the original hit TV series comes a delightful stage comedy revisiting the characters made famous by Ruth Cracknell and Gary McDonald over 35 years ago.

Directed by Aarne Neeme
Starring Julie McGregor and Christopher Truswell

The fine, nuanced acting and direction are superb – comedy is all about timing, and there were no miss-hits in this production.
